Kingdom Values (Part 1)

Text: Genesis 2:21-25

Foundations:

What we value most will shape our homes.

Matt. 7:24-27 – Building on the rock.

Jesus and His word are the only reliable, immovable foundation for our lives and families (Eph. 2:20).

A cornerstone is the first stone set in construction, determining the position and alignment of the entire building. Likewise, Christ serves as the primary, indispensable foundation for the church and for believers’ lives.

Here are two key elements required to build upon this foundation.

Hear and obey the Word of God (James 1:22).

Partner with the Lord in your daily life (John 15:4).

Ps. 11:3 NLT – Destroyed foundations.

The foundations mentioned in Psalm 11:3 are not people but the laws and ordinances of public justice.

The people feared that the nation might crumble under the weight of evil and lawlessness, a fear many share today.

We must be persistent in not allowing the devil to destroy our foundation of faith and hope in God, nor allow him access to our families (Eph. 6:10-11; 1 Peter 5:8-9)

The Word of God is an unshakable foundation on which to build our families (Is. 40:8).

Establishing Kingdom Values:

Here are three kingdom values every Christian home should have.

1. Love (John 15:12-13).

Demonstrating sacrificial love is a value of the kingdom of God, and Jesus modeled it for us (1 John 3:16).

Our love for one another sets us apart from the world (John 13:34-35).

A healthy family is anchored in God’s love, with each member committed to loving one another as Christ loves them (Col. 3:12-14).

2. Forgiveness (Matt. 6:14-15).

Receiving God’s forgiveness depends on our willingness to forgive others. If we choose not to forgive, we forfeit God’s forgiveness.

In our families, we should extend to each other the same forgiveness, grace, and mercy that Christ extends to us (Eph. 4:31-32).

3. Honor (Rom. 12:10).

Honor means treating someone or something as valuable, esteeming, respecting, and holding in high regard (Eph. 6:2-3, 5:33).

When we make honor a core value in our homes, it will be evident in the following ways.

o Listening and showing interest.

o Serving each other.

o Speaking well of each other.

o Celebrating each other’s successes.

Call to Action:

1. Make a decision today to establish love, forgiveness, and honor as the foundation stones of your family.
