Your New Identity in Christ (Part2)

Notes for Church app:

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV, AMPC & TLB)

Self-Image

Webster defines self-image as one’s conception of oneself and one’s own identity, abilities, and worth. Webster defines self-esteem as belief in oneself and self-respect.

How do you view yourself? Do you like you? Do you see yourself the way God sees you, or do you see yourself the way others see you?

How you see yourself is how you’ll live your life (Prov. 23:7a).

Things that Influence our Self-Image

1. Our Past.

Some people have had a very negative upbringing. Others like myself grew up in poverty and without a father in the home.

Many have allowed their past sins and mistakes to define them.

The Solution: Let God heal you from your past and begin seeing yourself as God sees you (Ps. 147:3; Col. 2:10).

Allow the Word of God to wash your mind of every negative word that has been spoken over your life.

Put your past behind you, allow God to heal you, and embrace His future for you

(Phil. 3:13-14).

Depending on the depth of your trauma, you may need to seek professional Christian counseling.

2. People (Family, Friends & Culture)

Some have allowed the opinions of their family, friends, and our culture to affect how they see themselves (Rom. 12:2 NLT).

God did not create you to be like someone else. He created you to be you.

The Solution: Regarding your identity, it doesn’t matter what others think of you; only what God thinks (Eph. 1:6).

Knowing who you are in Christ gives you the power to overcome people’s opinions of you.

3. Satan.

Satan knows that if he can destroy your identity, he can ruin your future.

The Solution: Don’t trust the devil. He is a liar and doesn’t have your best interest in mind (John 8:44).

Satan is not your creator, so therefore he can’t define you.
