THE BOOK OF COLOSSIAN // FAITH IN CHRIST
Pastor Marlando Jordan started a new series "The Book Of Colossians". Increase your understanding on how we are to walk in faith. Pastor Marlando does a great job of breaking down the introduction of Chapter 1 in the book of Colossians.
THE BOOK OF COLOSSIANS // FAITH IN CHRIST
Colossians 1:1-8
Conservative Bible scholars believe Paul wrote Colossians during his first imprisonment in Rome around A.D. 61 (Acts 28:16-31). This Epistle focuses on the supremacy and sufficiency of Christ. Colossians, more than any other New Testament book, defends the Lordship of Jesus.
There are four reasons why Paul wrote this epistle to the Colossians.
1. To expose and refute heresy.
2. To instruct the saints in the gospel's truth and alert them to the danger of returning to pagan vices.
3. To express a personal interest in the believers since he had never visited Colosse.
4. To inspire them to promote mutual love and harmony with each other.
The Faith of the Colossians’
Colosse was a small town in the province of Asia (modern-day) western Turkey, about 100 miles east of Ephesus.
Epaphras, like most pastors today, faced significant challenges. His greatest challenge was false teaching threatening the church (Col. 2:8).
1. Paul, a man of prayer, expressed his love and gratitude for the saints at Colosse.
(Col. 1:3 NLT) (1 Cor. 1:4; Eph. 1:16; Phil. 1:3-4)
2. The saints at Colosse were steadfast in their faith in Christ even amid false teaching and were firm in their love for one another.
(Col. 1:4 NLT)
3. The faith and love of the Colossians stemmed from their hope in heaven.
(Col. 1:5-6 NLT)
4. Epaphras was a faithful pastor committed to preaching the gospel.
(Col. 1:7-8 NLT) (Rom. 10:14-15)
